Do any of you deckies remember how.... .... a 1 tonne anchor got into the center of the lower lecture block in an external void surrounded by corridors and glass? .... how a mini car got stuck on top of the principals garage? Wizard wheezes, but I have been itching to know for about 20 years how these pranks were accomplished. I think the phase 3 deck apprentices (circa '79) may have some ideas of how they used their newly acquired seamanship skills. Please tell....! | ||

The anchor was carried over the roof Richard without even wakening the nightwatchman! {Actually it was a 5cwt Admiralty Pattern type] When the college closed I presented it along with a whole pile of other surplus gear to The National Sea Training College. Thanks Tony - I remember many other not so wizard wheezes that staggering Deckies were responsible for, perhaps best not go into them here. I am sure you remember most of them better than we do, as you had the unfortunate duty of giving us the verbal in the ensuing melt down! Ah... they were good times! I can only apologise from us all now I am older and (perhaps) wiser! I think the above two events developed into better stories with time amd telling. I was not at college when they happened (Who me? Wasn't me, Guv - I wasn't there...honest!) but I heard the stories many times when I arrived back and also marvelled at the ingenuity. Good to hear from you, Tony - thanks for the explanations. |
