Member notes for Richard Stannard

Left WGSB and studied electronics at the Merchant Navy College, Greenhithe for 3 years. Left in 1989 and briefly worked for London Electricity Board, crap job, lots of politics, didn't stay long. Went to sea with CI Shipping in early 1990 and spent 7 years there working on reefer vessels as Electro Technical Officer. Joined P&O Cruises in November 1996 and remainded there until June 2003. Rose to the dizzy heights of 1st ETO before deciding enough was enough. Had a good time though, sailed on Pacific, Dawn, Grand and Star Princess and on Aurora. For a complete culture shock, I went back to college for a year in 2000, upgrading the qualifications to an HND at Southampton Institute. Married once, now divorced, no kids. Still living in the Istead Rise area but also spent a lot of time in Nottingham last 2 years.
Just come ashore to the head office of Gearbulk Shipping, where I look after all technical aspects of cargo handling for our large fleet of bulk carrier vessels. Looks pretty interesting so far! Been a qualified diver for a few years now and spend a fair bit of my free time exploring the depths both around the UK coast and abroad.
