After looking at the web site I noticed you have a column basically giving information on their last known whereabouts. So I’m providing more info on each individual. This may help if you get any further enquiries about a particular person. All the people below attended between September 1977 and 1981. I think I gave you 1982 earlier and if so that was an error on my behalf. They all left Greenhithe on 13th March 1981. The exceptions to this were those on a sister course running a few weeks behind ours. But in reality they would have left only a few weeks later I think. The head of Nautical Studies at the time was a guy called BW Lockwood. I remember him quite distinctly. G Emmons I seem to think was the Principal through the whole time I was there. Chris Keen (Shell Tankers UK Ltd). I sailed with Chris on both the Opalia and Halia before losing contact with him. I understand he joined a Hong Kong based company after being subject of the mass redundancies made within the British Fleet around 1982. Whilst at College he owned a CB650 Honda. He lived in Cambridge and supported Cambridge United lol. Robert (Bob) Taylor (Shell Tankers UK Ltd) Again I sailed with Bob on the Opalia. We was well know to all on the course. I heard (although I don’t know who told me) he had emigrated to Adelaide Australia, to marry a girl he met whilst at the college. She was related to someone living in Hextable. Whilst at the college he lived in Fakenham Norfolk. Mark Wittaker (I think this is the right way to spell it) (Pan Ocean) Mark was from Arnold near Hull. I think his father owned a small Bunker Barge Company. Whilst at the college he owned a Yellow GT1275 Mini. A great friend I lost contact with him not long after leaving college. I feel he did n’t continue with Pan Ocean after college and possibly joined his fathers company. Mike Bailey. I fail to remember the company Mike worked for. Mike was a great Bruce Springsteen fan (before he became well know). I remember him breaking his Leg (could have been arm) falling off Keith Denny’s Bike (he was on the back) one evening near to the Darenth Tavern. Whilst at college he lived in Bristol. He was friendly with a girl from Wilmington who he may have continued to see after leaving. Keith Denny. Again I can’t remember the company Keith worked for. He owned a Kawasaki 250, well until he wrote it off in the accident mentioned above. Keith lived in Witham Essex. Andy Storm. Andy lived in Stamford Lincolnshire. I’ve not heard anything from him since the day I left college. Dick Weston Again I’ve not heard anything from Dick since the day we left. He actually lived quite close to the college at Sidcup in Kent. Brett Metcalfe. Brett was a “British Biker” who owned a Triumph. Alot of the time it was in pieces in his room. Some time after leaving college I walked out of a pub in Liverpool straight into him. We chatted but both had had a few drinks and therefore alot of the conversation is sketchy. I understand he may have joined the Police Force which is surprising considering his view on them whilst we were a Greenhithe lol. Whilst at college he lived in Bangor. Eric Froude. Eric was American by birth. He had the accent and was often a friendly pain in the ass. I’ve not see or heard of him since leaving, but I know he lived in Thatchem Berks. Dave Medley. Dave was on the sister course to us. although not as much as a friend as the others listed here I did have a contact in Heckmondwike wherever that is. Alun Morgan. Again on the sister course. A good friend of Dave Medley’s. He lived in Hornsey, South London. John Lynn. Another off the sister course. He lived in Chelsea. Another friend of Alun Morgan’s. Gary Zimmer. Gary was another member of the sister course. However he owned a motorcycle the identical to mine, only his was red. A Honda CB250 Superdream which was later stolen along with mine from the lower car park. There were both chained to each other at the time. His insurance company was obviously better than mine because he had a replacement before I left college, and I did n’t. He let me use his new bike to take my test, which I passed, on and I owe him at least 1 drink for that. Gary lived in Reading. Another couple of people worthy of mentioning are "Fonz" and Paddy Shrimpton. I really cannot remember any more about Fonz other than his nickname. Paddy on the other hand lived on the Isle of Wight. He had a twin brother on the sister couse which made him pretty unique I suppose. And thats about it. I have a photo or two but aim to find a few more before I send them. For now may I wish you the best of luck and if there's anything I can do to help please email me. Steve Foster.
